MELBOURNE CITY GREENS BRANCH
The Australian Greens Victoria, commonly known as “The Greens”, is a registered political party in the state of Victoria. The party is comprised of 36 branches, each of which geographically aligns with the boundaries of one or more local government areas.
Local government
The Melbourne City Greens is the branch which aligns with the City of Melbourne council area. It covers Flemington, Kensington, North Melbourne, Parkville, Carlton, East Melbourne, West Melbourne, Docklands, Melbourne, Southbank and part of Carlton North, Port Melbourne and South Yarra.
Council elections take place every four years at which 9 councillors and a Lord Mayor and Deputy Lord Mayor are elected. The last election was held in 2024 at which sitting greens councillor Dr Olivia Ball was re-elected. The greens have been represented on council continuously since 1999 by six different members.

State parliament
The state parliament of Victoria consists of two chambers, the legislative assembly, which has 88 single member electorates, and the legislative council, which has 8 regions each electing 5 members. The branch has primary responsibility for the legislative assembly district of Melbourne, held since 2014 by Ellen Sandell. The boundaries for the district are set by the Victorian Electoral Commission and are different to the council boundary area.
The next state parliament election will be held this year on 28 November 2026.

Federal parliament
The branch is responsible for the federal division of Melbourne. The boundaries for the division are set by the Australian Electoral Commission and are different again to the council and state boundaries.
The most recent federal election was held on 3 May 2025.
